We are dedicated to bringing the best of our diverse and multi-cultural history to you, in St. Augustine.
In 1565, on the 28th of August, land was first sighted by the Spanish in the New World. Don Pedro Menendez de Aviles led the expedition to create what would become our nation's oldest continually-occupied European settlement. At the time, August 28th -- the day of the death of St. Augustine, Bishop of Hippo -- was celebrated with a great feast.
Saint Augustine is the patron saint of brewers, printing, and theology; hence, the inspiration for the name of our town and our own Feast of Saint Augustine.
